Damsel in Distress

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

I’m so excited to share my most recent project with you! I needed a small end table for my living room and wanted something with a lot of character. You know, the usual - something I couldn’t easily stumble upon at the HomeGoods down the street from me. Enter the Damsel in Distress:

This end table was perfectly fine before, but I wanted to pull in the gold and white incorporated into the rest of my living room decor. My vision included gold edges on the beautiful wood detail and white distressing throughout the piece revealing a gold shimmer beneath. Notice how the gold naturally works with the natural distressing of wood on the legs. Rags to riches vibes:

It’s almost like "glam distress:"

Here are a few takeaways about a piece like this:

  • Use the decor and other pieces in your space to customize a new piece to your space

  • Play with distressing! It’s a great way to add personality to any piece

  • When distressing, do not think too much about how you are distressing. Envision how a piece would naturally wear and focus on those areas first. You can always add more!

  • If you’d like, accentuate detailed woodwork with color detailing

I used the following products to achieve this look:

Distressing is a common technique for farmhouse decor, but I’ve accomplished a glam look with this piece. Never be afraid to try conventional techniques in unconventional ways!

Damsel in Distress is the perfect name for this piece, right? Have you distressed furniture before? I’d love to hear about your experience!
